Be alert!

Beloved–

Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.  (from Peter)

I was so busy trying to be “Christlike” that I missed the escape route, provided by my Lord, to avoid temptation.  And so I responded to my critics ( my children think I’m too strict; their grandparents think they need more structure, and the love of my life thinks I “fuss” too much) in a most un-”Christlike” way.  The word of God is the only way to have peace of mind and heart. I pray for that peace for you. We have an amazing triune God!

Holy

Beloved–

But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy.  For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.”  (from Peter)

By reading the “whole book” I learned that having accepted God’s salvation by allowing Jesus Christ to pay the debt I owed but that I could not pay, I needed to be holy.  Holy,  meaning being different, not untouchable, but following Jesus Christ’s example for living in the world.  I also learned it was impossible to do without being daily in his presence. I pray for you to study the “whole book” and enjoy his presence.

IWOT!

Beloved–

At that moment their eyes were opened, and they suddenly felt shame at their nakedness. So they sewed fig leaves together to cover themselves …  (from Genesis)

By reading the “whole book” I learned why I was a sinner and how I had been saved from the punishment of hell.  By reading the “whole book” I began to understand how much my heavenly father loves me. I pray for you to know that God loves you by reading the “whole book.”

Just to the edge

Beloved–

For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.  Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. (from Romans)

Me a sinner? Me who always only walked to the very edge of the puddle but never through it; like the other kids.  I never understood that I was a sinner; until I saw myself at the foot of the cross holding the nails for the Roman soldiers to nail my savior to the cross on my behalf. I pray for you to know that the Father’s gift of grace and mercy through the sacrifice of his son, the Lord Jesus Christ and in the power of the Holy Spirit is because he loves you.

Answered

Beloved–

The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need.  He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams.  He renews my strength.  He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.  (from Psalms)

At first I was in a hole so deep that I couldn’t get out and I cried out to the Lord whose Psalm I had memorized as a child; and he answered me.  I learned that I had received salvation and a relationship with the triune God (oh what joy).  Then I thought if one chapter in the “Book of God” showed me the way to salvation, maybe I should read the whole book.  And so began my 50 year (and continuing) journey of reading God’s word daily. I pray for you to seek a deeper relationship with the God who is . . . Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Not really

Beloved–

“There is no judgment against anyone who believes in him . . . (from the book of John)

I thought that I wasn’t a real sinner, not really … but I was oh so very, very lost.  I had to understand how costly the blood was that was shed on Calvary’s tree for my sin.  I had to learn that my un-confessed sin was keeping me from a complete relationship with my heavenly father.  I pray for you to know that confession is the key to obedience and a relationship with the Triune God.

His Grace

Beloved–

But you must continue to believe this truth and stand firmly in it. Don’t drift away from the assurance you received when you heard the Good News. (from Colossians)

As a new Christian I experienced the joy of knowing that I had reached a safe harbor and that I would never have to face this life alone.  I went merrily on my way not realizing at what cost had bought my safety.  My heavenly father was very gracious and gently led me to see how I had nailed his beloved son to the cross of Calvary.  My daily prayer is to never to forget, as is my prayer for you to be steadfast in your praise for the God who is … Father, Son and Holy Spirit!

Truth

Beloved–

… you must continue to believe this truth and stand firmly in it, don’t drift away … you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault …  And this is the secret: Christ lives in you. (from Colossians)

If Obedience is the Key and Rejection of the lies is the Lock, then Truth is the secret of Salvation!  I can stand steadfast against the lies of the tormentor of souls because I know the secret.  I pray for you to stand steadfast and not become complacent now that you know the secret.  Praise our triune God!

Rejection

Beloved–

For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.  (from Corinthians)

If the KEY is Obedience then the LOCK is Rejection of every negative thought in the name of Jesus Christ and by the God given power of the Holy Spirit to bathe us in all truth and peace of mind. Pray to focus on the truth of the God who is . . . Father, Son and Holy Spirit!

Obedience!

Beloved–

Give your burdens to the Lord, and he will take care of you …  merely listening to the law doesn’t make us right with God. It is obeying the law that makes us right in his sight … (from the old and new books)

Obedience is the key. The heartache I suffered was self-inflicting all because I couldn’t trust God to take away the shame of my actions.  For 10 weeks I was disobedient; I continued to listen to the tormentor of my soul, instead of stepping in the shadow of my Lord’s peace and comfort.  Once I chose obedience no matter what; I’m still reeling from the solution with which my heavenly father blessed me. I pray for you to step into that peace and comfort no matter how impossible or useless it looks.  Praise to our triune God!
